Welcome To The Family, Brady Benjamin!
“Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.” Robert Frost
That’s pretty much what family means, isn’t it. Thomas Wolfe entitled one of his books, You Can’t Go Home Again, but I think he missed the boat
on that one or he hadn’t read Robert Frost. You can go home again, if you’ve got family. As the parents of four children, three of them daughters, we have been only too happy, most of the time, to have them come home again, with or without small
children and/or cats, when they needed to. Our son, John, pictured here with his Dad and his brand new baby boy, Brady Benjamin Davis – who was born on my birthday – moved to his fraternity house when he started college and after that wanted to
live at the beach and did!
Jesus, as he spent his last hours on the cross was concerned about his family, his mother. “When Jesus therefore saw his mother,
and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold your son. Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.” (John 19:26-27).
We have been so blessed, John and I, with an enormous family, which had very little to do with us. Our four children have presented us, over the years, with thirteen grandchildren, and
three great-grandchildren. I buy my birthday cards on a quarterly basis and am pretty sure that I am the one keeping Hallmark in business.
Our daughter, Crissy, and her
husband, Chris, who live in Texas, are the parents of two little girls, Jessie and Emily, who are adopted. One of the most joyful events, ever, was when all the parents were able to come together on National Adoption Day several years ago, to be there when
the judge pronounced Jessie as officially part of our family. These little girls, who are seven and four, are not problem free as their birth mothers did not approach pregnancy like most of us did, taking our vitamins, resting, eating all the right stuff.
I, personally, drank a truly hideous glass of milk and brewer’s yeast daily through my pregnancy as brewer’s yeast is loaded with B vitamins.
has a big brother, Caleb, who will be two next month. He already has an “I’m The Big Brother” t-shirt, but I’m thinking he needs more than one, which will make his mommy, Michon, laugh!
“The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world, there will not be, another child like him.” Pablo Casals
“The Gift That Keeps On Giving”
Children are a gift from You,
You've told us that, dear God,
But when I think of yesterday,
I find that somewhat odd!
First that scene in Wal-Mart,
The tantrum and the crowd...
And looking at my little precious,
Well...I can't say
I was proud!
Children are a gift, it's true, the one that keeps on giving,
Think spit-up, tantrums, diaper rash, laundry to the rafters.
We wonder where our prince has gone (he’s at Home Depot),
And where’s my happily ever after!
Cheerios and goldfish crackers, underfoot and in your bed,
An ear infection for every season,
And No, I don’t want to! And No I just won’t!
And No! for just plain no reason!
But then I see her (or him!) sleeping,
And she's clean and pink and sweet,
And I know that if she wasn't here
life would just be... incomplete!
So thank you, Lord, for the millionth time,
For this precious gift of life.
We can't go back to Wal-Mart,
We've been banned forevermore,
One thing about this precious gift,
She never is a bore!
Welcome to the family, Brady Benjamin! We couldn’t be happier that you are here.
“May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you, may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-25)
