This adorable little girl is Catherine Sophia Davis. She is eight years old and that’s what it says on the front of her t-shirt, which she got at the Grand Canyon just a few days ago. Catherine says this is the message she is going to live
by. Not bad! She and her brother, William, who is ten and a half, just came back from a trip to the Grand Canyon with their Aunt Patti, Grandma Leah, and cousins, Blake and Luke. These people are all part of our family. And, yes, we started praying for them
weeks before they left, that they’d be safe and have the best time ever.
They saw a baby elk minutes after it was born and then, the miracle of seeing this brand
new little guy struggle to his feet and follow his mama. Both Catherine and William passed the test to become Junior Rangers, which was serious business. They had to fill out books and the Ranger on duty checked their work and administered the Junior Ranger
Oath. They are now official Junior Rangers with certificates to prove it! Their Aunts took great delight in sending back pictures of them looking like they were balancing on top of a wall, teetering over the great abyss below. Then, mercifully, took other
great pictures showing that the wall was nowhere near the edge. They looked for and found fossils, peered down into the 4,000 ft. wide meteor crater at Winslow, AZ, stayed up late, had ice cream for dinner, and, as there were no parents anywhere around, had
a fantastic time.
When did you last have a vacation like that, where you were not in charge, didn’t have to drive, somebody else paid for everything and all you
had to do was have a great time and not give anybody any grief.
Sounds a lot like meeting Jesus and coming into His family. He’s already paid it all, given us His
own Junior Ranger book, the Bible, provided a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins... you know, like the song by Bill and Gloria Gaither. And God, Himself, is our Father, going before and behind us, providing beautiful things and places for us to see. Guiding
our steps, being there to caution us if we step too far out on the ledge. Bringing us back to His arms, no matter how far we might fall. Nobody brought me back a t-shirt with “Advice from the Night Sky” on it. But I kinda wish they had.
“I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God,
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
The family of God.
You will notice we say “brother and sister” ‘round here,
It’s because we’re a family and these are so near;
When one has a heartache, we all share the tears,
And rejoice in each victory in this family so dear.”
