Halloween! A deadly...dreadly night...

“The worst thing about Halloween is, of course, candy corn. Candy corn is the only candy in the history of America that’s never been advertised. And there’s a reason. All of the candy corn that was ever made was made in 1911. And, since nobody actually eats that stuff, every year there’s a ton of it left over.” Lewis Black

Halloween in my neck of the woods is bigger than Christmas, bigger than Black Friday shopping, bigger than the first day of school after the longest, hottest summer on record, and probably uses more pumpkins than Libby packs up all year. Both ends of my street are closed to traffic, floodlights are brought in and thousands of people wander through ooohhhing, aaaahhhing and Trick or Treating. Hope you got your hands on a few mini Milky Ways, Snickers and, my personal favorite...tiny boxes of Dots!

All Hallows Eve at last is here,

A deadly.... dreadly night.....

When ghouls and ghosts and creepies,

And other awful blights,

Are free to roam and wander,

Anywhere they might.

And generate, originate

Frightful things all night.

Creating scary terror everywhere they can,

And scream inducing, faint-producing,

hair-raising, bone-melting,

Quivery, shivery....

Ack! What's right there behind me... fright!

They creep out of their crypts and graves,

These creatures of the night.

They haunt the roads and byways,

Run rampant through the park.

They hide between the bushes,

And everywhere it's dark.

All Hallows Eve at last is here,

A deadly.... dreadly night.....

When ghouls and ghosts and creepies,

And other awful blights,

Are free to roam and wander,

Anywhere they might.

Up and down the streets of town,

They race in search of plunder,

These ghouls and ghosts and monsters,

About three feet tall or under!

They shriek for treats and threaten tricks,

But are satisfied with candy.

These creatures rule the darkness,

As long as Mom and Dad are handy.

All Hallows Eve  at last is here,

A deadly.....dreadly night....

When ghouls and ghosts and monsters,

And other awful sights,

Go dancing through the shadows,

Into circles of street lights.

Little Screams and Donald Trumps,

Harry Potters by the score,

Princesses and pirates, Ninja turtles, too,

Trick or Treat, trick or treat, give me something good to eat!

Or I’ll play a trick on you!

On to Thanksgiving! A turkey in every oven and a pumpkin pie on every table!
