Spring! Nature's Way of Saying, "Let's Party!"

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s Party!”

Robin Williams

It’s definitely Spring! At last, buds are ready to burst into leaves on all the deciduous trees, daffodils are brightest yellow; purple, white and yellow dutch iris buds are open, ornamental cherry and plum are showing off with pink flowers all over town, the first roses are blooming and the world has never looked more beautiful. We’ve had rain!

“Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour down righteousness; let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, and righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.” Is. 45:8

Trader Joe’s has 10 stems of daffodils for $1.49 and they last about a week. Sitting on the kitchen table, they make you smile every time you walk through there and, let’s face it, does walking through the kitchen usually make you smile? Seems like every time one walks in there, somebody wants food! Looking out my kitchen window this morning at all the lemons on the tree made me think of this nice moment in time when the dishes are done and a quiet spring moment is available...

Kitchen Window

Sunlight on the lemon tree,

Old dog sleeps in the corner, dreams of rabbit hunts, twitches in her sleep.

House is clean enough, if you ignore the shower.

Plants are watered, dishes done.

Rain from last night’s storm still drips from the eaves.

Blue jays perch and sway on the Chinese elm,

Beady eyes searching for foolhardy earthworms down on the ground.

Fat squirrels drag avocados around,

And fight like six year olds over whose avocado is whose.

Guys! There are enough for all of you!

There’s one cup of coffee left in the pot,

And the phone hasn’t rung once.

Can there be anything pleasanter than this?

An excellent time to ignore the paint chipping off the window sill,

Have that last cup of coffee,

And think about defrosting something for dinner.

Days like this don’t come around that often.

The front porch tomato plant has blossoms on it and we’ve picked our first naval orange of the year. If you haven’t fed your citrus trees, you better do it and it’s not too late to put that ¼ cup of Epsom salts around the roses.

“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3

Spring...when everything is new! Rejoice! Look around! God has made wonderful things for our eyes to see. A feast celebrating His works!
