Happy New Year to you and yours! You are right about the Southern tradition of having black-eyed peas--just one of a few culinary offerings--for New Year's dinner. As a native son of the South that was one of the items featured at our table. Your Split

Yes, those tomato plants can be temperamental. Last year the tomato plant was doing nicely, then all of its leaves fell off. No worms. No nothing. I kept watering it and it still yielded tomatoes! But only a small amount. It was stressed to say the least.

My memory of Van DeKamp's Salt Rising bread is still the best EVER! Already did the 'book' clearance, clothing, pictures (WHY was there 6 pictures of a fence?? A rock?), files, etc. After doing this 2ce, I start AGAIN...you learn after the 1st time you can
turn loose of the things you THOUGHT you NEEDED, same with the 2nd time. The 3rd allows you to REALLY RID yourself of unnecessary 'stuff'! Your kid's will thank you 'later'. Instead of, "What the heck were they thinking when they BOUGHT THIS????" LOL

grandfather hadn't had the gall to die this week she'd've been back yesterday to continue our work! OK...God Rest His Soul, may he RIP! Mandy get yer butt here next week!!! NO death excuses this time!!! This woman is truly amazing! Mandy is one of those SINGLE
women trying her best to raise 2 children on her own, buy her home, put food on the table, keep her kids going, and feed 3 dogs and 1 cat. I overpay her indecently but I can't take it with me (I hear.) She wears my size 9 shoes so is the recipient of almost
new Birk's and other's, plus we both have a handbag fetish. From my 'housecleaning/uncluttering we've probably furnished her home. LOL Her daughter just graduated high school with honors and going on to college! YAY SINGLE MOM FOR RAISING A GREAT YOUNG WOMAN...(who
just 4 years ago tried to commit suicide, but with counseling is going strong and loving life)! Taylor, her 11 year old son, is a great guy and into sports and guitar's. I paid for his first 5 lessons! AHHHHhhh the dreaded bread machine.... I see mine on the

Your Father's Day message about your father was beautiful. I'm envious of what you were able to salvage of the relationship between the two of you. As you know, S. W. was less than a noble 'dad'! The gazillion my 'mother' married offered no better down
the line. I can still remember the feeling of sitting on the front porch of my g'mother's house, looking across the street into Bonnie's (bff's home) house. She had 3 sisters, a mom and dad who did things together. Once in awhile they invited me to join them
but I always felt 'alone'. To S. W. I was a $, not a being, a child, a heart, no pigtails to be braided, no visiting, no phone calls EVER. Dianne, you were/are so so so lucky to have found your father, to have the family you have, the faith you have. I have
NONE of these things. What I try to do is see that people don't live the life I did, or take the abuse I did. I'm helping a woman, now, to get her life in order, who's family 'used' her unmercifully and she's in financial ruins and mentally broke down. NO,
I'm NOT helping her financially, but getting her to realistically see she can't afford to live in her home they got her to purchase before she even sold her other one (which she just now listed, ty Cindy...). She has listed BOTH homes and we will then buy
her one she can afford with a small yard for her dog. I've got her in with a Pulmonologist because she was going to a family physician for COPD. She's strangling on mucus and can't breathe. More later...xo

This triggered happy memories from my childhood when I went to VBS, where we sang "Onward Christian Soldiers." Remember that oldie? The blessing party at age 18 is terrific and enjoyed reading what you said to each one. This would make a wonderful article
for Focus on the Family or some other magazine.

Love, love love! Great analogy of banana bread and prayer, both of which are often made when needed but not felt like doing in my own life!!! Great one!

Catching up on your posts. Moved by the story of you and your Dad, and laughed during the reading of the piece about graduations and those long, boring speeches. Nice writing. And so friendly.

Really lovely and well written on Fathers. Brings up "lots" as I am sure it does for every one but in good ways. You are such a wonderful cheerleader for your family. How blessed they are and I know you feel blessed.

Yes, indeed. I've heard them "all" and you are spot on. Enjoy yours this year. I'm glad to have a couple years off! Except for all the loved ones I get to send Amazon gift cards too. There goes my second vacation home. :-) P.S. Was very moved by your previous
blog on the Nurses who honored their tragically missing classmate.

We live about 4 miles south of you and had a steady stream of raccoons , but we were feeding squirrels and blue jays in the daytime. The squirrel feeder has a top so the squirrel cam open it and get a peanut and it shuts again. Well the raccoons found
it and at 2 AM we would hear the top bang shut......turning the flashlight on the raccoons had figured out the squirrel feeder and was helping himself. it was cleaned out by morning.......now the feeder goes into the garage every night.

Deanne, Your blog is great - I love it! I do have a garden of roses and a library. The roses are very forgiving of my sometimes neglect but love me anyway. My azaleas are in full bloom now and remind me of home in Louisiana. I'm not going to tell you about
my library -it's in complete destruction. After 7 days of rain, the roof sprung a leak in the library. I've been drying books, papers & genealogy files for a week. Pray for me!

Oh Deanne your blog is great.....You always bring up SPHS and most people don't remember High school in the '50's Miss Sowards and her dogs....wonder where their bathroom was???? I had her for basic science....but the favorite was Mr Tewksbury....he was
so cute but got married....I remember members of his English class carrying around the book 'Tale of 2 cities'...I was not in that class but now wish I had been...HEY come to the Coffee Gallery May 1 and see Jim & Anne Curry......We will be there...

We have been to Casa Del Rey a couple of times food is still great!!
